OGP brochure

With a global membership, OGP has access to a wealth of technical knowledge and experience. OGP collates and distils this knowledge into a range of reports and guidelines. Some of these are for general use while others are restricted to OGP members. Many of these publications have been recognised and used by international authorities and safety and environmental bodies.

Although companies should try to avoid the need for employees or security contractors to be armed, there are situations where firearms are appropriate. In such circumstances, it is important that clear instructions are given on how firearms and force should be used. This document indicates the types of issue an organisation may wish to consider where the arming of employees or security contractors is deemed necessary.

Food and water safety is of paramount importance to the effective functioning of the oil and gas industry. All sectors of the industry, from frontier exploration and production locations to retail operations, are potentially at risk. Diseases related to food and water are major contributors to project morbidity, and can have significant and adverse impacts on workforce productivity, particularly during large-scale construction phases of a project. In view of the overall significant health risk profile for oil and gas operations, this industry specific document provides guidance on the prevention of food- and water-related diseases.

This document provides some general background on drilling fluids and the various categories of base fluids and additives currently in use. It outlines potential health hazards associated with these substances, looks at opportunities for human exposure presented by drilling operations, and introduces risk management methods and monitoring processes aimed at reducing the risk of harmful health effects.

Over the past 10 years the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (OGP) has collected environmental data from its member companies on an annual basis. The objective of this programme has been to allow member companies to compare their performance with other companies in the sector, leading, it is hoped, to improved and more efficient performance. The programme also contributes to the industrys wish to be more transparent about its operations. This report summarises information on exploration & production activities carried out by contributing OGP member companies in 2008. 32 member companies (5 more than last year), working in 62 countries worldwide, have submitted data for the report. Three companies are taking part for the first time, three companies that have contributed data in previous years but not in 2007 have returned to report 2008 data, and one company that reported last year did not take part this year. Information is aggregated at both global and regional levels and is expressed within 5 indicator categories: Gaseous emissions Aqueous discharges Non-aqueous drilling fluids (NADF) on cuttings Spills Energy consumption and flaring

Since the 1990s, oil & gas exploration and field development has developed rapidly in offshore areas where geohazards may pose risks. The objective of this report is to give a possible systematic overview of a methodology applied to assess these risks, with focus on seabed instability and submarine mass flow effects such as may be found on the continental slopes and in ultra-deep waters worldwide.

OGP maintains a comprehensive worldwide database of accident statistics covering all aviation activities performed by the oil & gas industry, with a specific focus on helicopter operations. Periodic review of this database highlights land seismic and helirig operations as the area that continues to incur the highest accident rates of all of the roles performed in support of oil & gas exploration & production. The purpose of this document is to promote effective management of helicopter operations in support of land seismic surveys and helirig operations. The information contained within this document should be viewed as recommended best practices. These guidelines are to be used in conjunction with OGP report 390, Aircraft management guidelines (AMG).

This guideline is a review and update of the previous guideline, HSE aspects in a contracting environment for geophysical operations (schedules and plans), OGP ref № 317, issued in 2001. This guideline has been prepared as a reference of industry best practice in Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management for all parties engaged in a contract for geophysical operations. It is not limited to client/contractor/subcontractor projects, but can be utilised in any contractual situation where any number of parties are engaged in a project. This guideline is generic and intended for a global audience. It can provide a good training reference to companies in the geophysical industry that are unfamiliar with the concepts of HSE management through hazard identification and risk minimisation. In the same manner a framework is provided for consistent assessment and fair comparison of potential contractual relationships. Two tables are intended for editing before use; they may be downloaded here: Table1 and Table 2

The principal purposes of this report are to present the safety performance of the global E&P industry in 2008, and to compare the performance to that of previous years. The report allows OGP members and others to benchmark their performance against that of the global E&P industry. The key indicators used in the report are: number of fatalities, fatal accident rate, lost time injury frequency and total recordable incident rate. The report presents global results for these indicators, which are then analysed by region, function and company. A code is used for the company results to preserve anonymity. The performance of both companies and contractors is reported. Wherever practicable, results are presented graphically; the data underlying the charts are presented in Appendix B.
