Legal_Committees.jpegVirtually all OGP member activities are circumscribed by contracts, permits or other legal requirements. These oblige adherence to local, national, or regional laws and/or global conventions. It is important to understand how developments in regional and international regulations may impact OGP members’ operations.

The Legal Committee deals with questions of international law, or comparative national law, or in relation to international conventions, or organisations, and insurance matters concerning petroleum exploration & production activities.

As part of this, the Committee aims to:

  • Keep OGP members generally informed on relevant legal developments including civil liability, insurance, corporate social responsibility and related matters
  • Advise members on proposed international conventions, both regional and global, affecting E&P activities, particularly those concerning civil liability and insurance matters
  • Provide legal representation at appropriate meetings of international organisations
  • Liaise with other OGP committees and appropriate industry bodies (including OPOL) and governments

The Committee also works to build additional know-how on the legal implications of carbon capture and storage, possibly with the aid of external contributions.
